PART 2; CHIN SWEE TEMPLE AT GENTING RESORT AT TWILIGHT

KEE@FSWMAG.COM
I ARRIVED AT CHIN SWEE TEMPLE AROUND 6.30 PM AS I WANTED TO SEE HOW THE TEMPLE COMPLEX LOOKED LIKE AT DUSK AS I ASSUMED IT WOULD TAKE ON AN ETHEREAL LIGHT...AND I WAS RIGHT!

The mountain setting of Chin Swee Temple nestling amid the low clouds and mist all conspired to produce a surreal experience and I could feel the sacredness of the place. Of course anytime is a good time to visit Chin Swee temple or any religious site but I think a twilight trip is particularly exhilarating.

There were stalls in the main square but they would soon be packing and leaving. I turned left to admire the pagoda before turning back to see the statue of Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong who transformed a near worthless tract of land into a mega-million ringgit project and made him the richest man in Malaysia at one time!

His fame and fortune were due to simple hard work and the blessings of the gods especially Buddha, Kuan Yin and the local deity Chin Swee from his home village of Anxi in Fujian province in China. It was this deity who inspired the 19 year old to leave China for the promised golden land of Malaya and in gratitude Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong built a small shrine which expanded as his empire thrived into a world class Buddhist complex and a major tourist attraction that requires at least 3 hours to thoroughly enjoy the various religious sites. There is even a full scale vegetarian restaurant.
