Ventures & TPG for USD258 million, Goldman Sachs, Benchmark Capital, Menlo
Ventures, and Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO).
Uber is also known to be popular amongst celebrities and athletes, from Shaquille O’Neal
to Britney Spears.

ABOUT UBER CEO
Mr. Travis Kalanick
! TIME Magazine 40 most influential people in tech.
! Dropped out of UCLA to start world’s first P2P search engine Scour in 1998.
! Founded P2P contents delivery company Red Swoosh in 2001. Sold company to
Akamai Technologies in 2007.
! Founded Uber in 2009, an on-demand private driver service.
! Mentor and investor to entrepreneurs and startups.
! Like his motto “breaking stuff in order to fix it,” Travis brought disruption to the
stagnant transportation market in different countries.

UBER HISTORY
Uber co-founder and CEO, Travis Kalanick is a serial entrepreneur with over a decade of
experience building successful startups. Mr. Travis Kalanick and StumbleUpon Founder,
Mr. Garrett Camp, initially came up with the idea of Uber during the 2008 LeWeb
Conference in Paris, where taxis are notoriously unreliable.

Uber launched in June 2010 in San Francisco and expanded to over 20 cities by the end of
2012. In the past six months, the company’s growth has accelerated especially on a global
scale. With its expanding list of over 65 cities in 25 countries that include London, Paris,
Washington DC, Munich, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sydney,
Singapore, Bangalore, Manila, Seoul, Taipei and now Kuala Lumpur, Uber wants to bring
world-class transportation solutions to world-class cities. Uber plans to expand to
neighboring mega-cities in the Asian region within the next year.

UBER’S VALUE
Uber’s goal is to be a platform that effectively connects supply and demand in the
transportation industry.

For users / riders, the company aims to make the convenience and luxury of a private
driver available to everyone, on-demand – at the push of a button on your Smartphone.
Uber democratizes and simplifies the cumbersome process of renting a car and then hiring a driver, into a touch of a button on a mobile app.

 Some key benefits are:
" On-demand: riders only pay for the specific trip between point A to B.

" Transparency: client can see the car on the map real-time as it moves toward the
pickup location with a ETA. When a rider orders a car, they will also receive the
driver & vehicle information, including - a photo of the driver, vehicle license plate
and car make.

" Automatic payment: Payment is taken care of automatically through the credit
card / debit card on file, no need to pay cash or swipe each time. Receipts are
emailed automatically at the end of your journey.

" Safety Feature: Every single ride is tracked via GPS so we know where every rider
and driver is at any given time.

" Professional & Stylish: We work with professional limo companies that
provide chauffeur services to the top hotels & corporate executives in KL.

" High Level of Service: At the end of every ride the user / rider rates the driver, and
the driver also rates the user / rider. There is an inherent system of accountability
on both sides built into the Uber app

For drivers and rental car providers, Uber aims to bring more income, and tools
to improve operational efficiency in a variety of ways:
" The GPS-based app ensures nearest available car to the client is automatically
dispatched, minimizing time and fuel costs.

" “Sharing Economy” model: Luxury sedans are expensive, underutilized assets
that continuously depreciate in value over time, even if the cars just sit in rental car
lots. Uber brings additional demand from users / riders who are looking for a
premium experience and might otherwise drive themselves.

" Uber designs and provides state-of-the-art real-time tools and analytics to help
drivers identify high-demand geographies.

KUALA LUMPUR
Uber first entered the Asian market in February of 2013, by launching in Singapore. The
company began beta-testing its product in several other Asian cities after that and finally
made it’s way to Kuala Lumpur in late October 2013, making it the 6th city in Asia.

There are many reasons why Uber decided to come to Kuala Lumpur:

! Kuala Lumpur has a high Smartphone penetration which is rapidly climbing month
on month. Malaysians are comfortable adopters of new technology and are very
open to trying new concepts.

! Uber can bring additional revenue to drivers and give them a chance to grow their
businesses once they see the value of Uber.
! Kuala Lumpur has a big traffic problem. Uber believes it can innovate transportation
everywhere and reduce the number of cars on the road.

! Uber is foreigner-friendly. Available in more than 15 different languages
(and counting), it helps foreign visitors tremendously. Uber has millions of users
globally, and when foreigners come to Kuala Lumpur, many of them have already
been opening the Uber app in their preferred language to see if there are cars
available.

Vehicles on the Uber platform in Kuala Lumpur are exclusively luxury vehicles:
Toyota Camry, Nissan Teana, Mercedes S-Class or E-Class, BMW 7-Series, etc.
