KEITH KEE, MALAYSIA'S TOP CHINESE COUTURIER, PRESENTS 'THE EAST IS RED' COLLECTION FOR 2014!

KEE@FSWMAG.COM
IT IS NOT EASY TO DECLARE WHO IS THE BEST FASHION DESIGNER IN MALAYSIA AS WE HAVE MANY GREAT ONES.

But it is easy and unassailable to say Keith Kee is the best and finest Chinese designer! He is regionally famous for his qipao, cheongsam and oriental-inspired gowns lavished with intricate beading, sequinned work, embroidery and tassels that instantly turn its wearer into imperial princesses of Forbidden City!

His latest collection, aptly dubbed 'The East is Red' is a modern and witty take on Chairman Mao's famous quotation and failed prediction that eastern Asia would all turn communist!

Keith Kee's exclusive, extravagant, exotic and expensive haute couture dresses are enough to make the commie turn in his grave as China is now the world's biggest buyer of European luxury goods and second largest economy after overtaking Japan!

This Chinky New Year, doll up and go all out as an imperial princess or failing which, as dowager empress or concubine in a Keith Kee!

KEITH KEE COUTURE “EAST IS RED” CHINESE NEW YEAR COLLECTION 2014

With the Chinese New Year festivities not that far ahead, Keith Kee Couture celebrated it in early fashion, for the fourth consecutive year, through its “East is Red” Chinese New Year Collection 2014. This celebration saw designer Keith Kee debuting his exquisite designs in brand new ranges of qipaos for the ladies, as well as mandarin collar-inspired pieces for the men, at Paradigm Mall.

Though the collections boast of vastly different styles and looks, these 50 outfits feature the predominant usage of Thai silk, Shantung silk, French lace, Italian lace, chiffon, silk crepe, and tulle net materials. Kee’s preference for such thin and translucent fabric and materials is for practicality purposes as Chinese New Year usually coincides with warm weather, especially in Malaysia.

Five various qipao collections were introduced in the form of the transformation pieces, all red pieces, casual pieces, evening gown-inspired pieces, as well as the avant garde origami pieces. According to Kee, bright candy colours are the trend in time for next year’s spring / summer seasons and as such, his collection pieces follow suit and are in the tones of strawberry red, sweet pink, apple green, lemon yellow, and so on. To complement these ranges of outfits, a men’s collection - consisting of mandarin collar shirts and suits - was also created in line with his inspiration.

The transformation collection showcased black colour pieces that can be ‘transformed’ into red colour pieces, signifying the transition between the spring / summer and autumn / winter seasons. Each of these masterpieces work as a two-in-one dress, and can be worn either way or colour. The colour red has always been traditionally associated with Chinese New Year as it represents happiness and prosperity, and that is why the all red qipaos and mandarin collar shirts, which were paraded by renowned local celebrities on the runway, are one of the main highlights during this showcase as it further emphasises its theme.

The casual qipao designs are bright and colourful, making them appropriate for day and night wear, while the evening gown-inspired qipao pieces are more appropriate for functions of grandiose, and can also be suitable for brides during dinner functions. As for the avant garde creations, the femininely structured gowns are accentuated with a twist through the incorporation of abstract origami art, providing them with a bolder, red carpet appropriate look.

“I am aware that as far as qipaos goes, there is only so much you can improvise but this time however, I decided to put more focus into its detailing - every sleeve, embroidery, lace patching, and crystal pieces, are extremely vital in delivering the overall message of my designs, and I am extremely proud of this collection,” explained Kee.

This festive celebration, which was emceed by Amelia Henderson, saw a handful of our country’s top celebrity models on the runway, and they included Amber Chia, Kelly Jagan, Belinda Chee, Emily Lim, Joey Leong, Wilson Tan, James Ng, along with beauty queens Gabriella Robinson, Nadine Ann Thomas, Carey Ng, Thanuja Ananthan, Lenna Lim, Denise Tan, Zhiny Ooi, and Fancy Goh. Guests were also entertained by violinist Dennis Lau and serenaded by singer Michael Leaner during the showcase.

This celebration would not have been possible without the generous support of sponsors Amber Chia Academy, Sapporo, 321 ProProject, Studio Number 9, Vanessa Rouge, Mirror Mirror Dot Com, and last but not least, Paradigm Mall for acting as the venue sponsor
