MIGF FINE DINING AT 5 SEN5ES RESTAURANT AT THE WESTIN HOTEL KUALA LUMPUR

DATO STEVE DAY, CHAIRMAN AND FOUNDER OF MIGF MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL GOURMET FESTIVAL AND WIFE DATIN SU DAY AND HRATCH KHATCHANIAN (YES THIS IS THE SPELLING AS I CHECKED CAREFULLY) THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE WESTIN KUALA LUMPUR HOSTED A SPECIAL AND GRAND MIGF DINNER AT THEIR FLAGSHIP RESTAURANT 5 SEN5ES.

Cocktails and canapes were served at the foyer of the first floor where 5 Sen5es is located. An art exhibition was currently on and I stopped drinking champagne long enough to admire the artworks by artist Charlotte Donvang who I thought was half Vietnamese but she is fully Danish. Her exhibition is called 'Collective Consciousness' and in her own words, are 'flamboyant, colourful and visionary' which perfectly describes me so I initially thought she was referring to me but no, she was exhorting her own works which are rather nice.

I was shocked at her prices---RM 1,900 to RM 5,000 and at first I thought she left out an extra zero. They are certainly cheap by European standards and very reasonable by our poverty-stricken, Third World standards. So go to The Westin now before they are all gone! Datin Su Day bought one on the spot and ordered her minion to deliver it to her limousine straightaway.

The 'Depth and Deception' art exhibition also featured the works of Aahsan Qureshi who is Pakistani (www.ahsan-qureshi.com) called 'Half-Full' and luckily the epithet also did not refer to me! 

5 Sen5es menu is the most original and clever as it is a mini piece of artwork which I am keeping as souvenir. It features a double page card with red paintings by Ahsan Qureshi and Charlotte Donvang on back and front covers and cut obliquely for effect! Very de nice I must say!

The MIGF Festival Menu 2013 features starters of 3 Hot Delicacies of deep fried stuffed oyster, foie gras and duck roll and steamed stuffed fish maw. This is followed by double boiled seafood dumpling consomme in whole coconut.

Main course was stewed pork belly with luo han guo which was so good I demanded a second portion. Call  me greedy. When violinist Dennis the Menace Lau and John Teo of New Convox saw me, they too asked for free second helpings the greedy piggies. I was traumatised their stewed pork belly portions were bigger than mine so I started to protest and they both hastily shut me up by giving me a piece of the pork each. So I gobbled down 6 pieces! After all, one can never be too rich or eat too little pig meat. I know the correct term is 'pork' but 'pig meat' sounds more gross.

The second main course was fish fillet with duet corn in crab meat sauce while steamed redc rice with abalone and waxed meat (read that as pig meat) completed the dinner. Dessert was a delightful sweets combo and 4 wines were paired.
