Acker Merrall & Condit, the world's leading wine auctioneer and America's oldest fine wine merchant, will hold its next Hong Kong auction on 13 & 14 September 2013 at the Island Shangri-La and Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. This exciting sale will present 970 lots of the finest and most desirable wines valued at HK$40+ million/ US$5+ million.

John Kapon, CEO of Acker Merrall & Condit Companies, said: “We couldn’t kick off the fall season in Hong Kong with a bigger bang! Over 90 DRC lots, more than 50 from Leroy, incredible and rare Jayer, Dujac and Rousseau lots, 20 lots each from Petrus and Lafleur, and dozens of OWCs from the greatest Bordeaux and Burgundy estates - this will be one of our most exciting HK auctions ever, which is really saying something. I expect those who participate will be thrilled after the auction ends because there are also many exciting lots rarely seen in the market, lots that may not be seen for many years to come.

1971 Echezeaux_Lot 687A (2).jpg
Among those are 9 bottles of 1971 Échézeaux from a legendary barrel of wines bottled and labeled by Henri Jayer himself especially for Alexis Lichine - a true gem in terms of provenance, rarity and quality. And a man widely known as one of the world’s greatest collectors has consigned a phenomenal collection - it’s an amazing consignment, lots 688-880. The most sought-after California cult wine ever, the 1992 Screaming Eagle their first vintage, returns to the global auction market for the first time since 2008 in a twelve-bottle case. This will be a fun and exciting two days!”

ONE OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST COLLECTIONS (Lot 688-880)
This collector is widely recognized as one of the greatest in the world, a
connoisseur who is fanatical about storage and provenance. Almost all of
the bottles offered are from much larger amounts still resting in one of his
many cellars in France and the USA. There is an endless list of great and
famous wines from an amazing consignment. DRC, Leroy, Jayer, Dujac,
Rousseau, Vogue, Fourrier, Meo, Ponsot, Drouhin, Jadot, Ramonet,
Mouton, Latour, Haut Brion, Laville Haut
Brion, Chave, Gentaz, Rayas, JJ Prum, Von
Simmern and Egon Muller, to name but a few
from a far, far longer list. Were we to try to list all
the wines worthy of collectors’ attention, this
press release would span many more pages. Nearly US$1 million is available
from this incredible collection, featuring many older wines in outstanding
condition. So we suggest downloading our catalog via
http://www.ackerwines.com/auctions.cfm and spending serious time
reviewing this collection, which is one of the very, very finest we have offered
during our five years leading the Hong Kong auction market.

AN AMERICAN COLLECTION OF TOP NOTCH BORDEAUX (Lot 1-178)
Another featured collection in the auction is a superb collection of
Bordeaux most in their original wooden cases. Among the First Growths
are fourteen lots of Haut Brion, a long run of great vintages from Latour,
Mouton and Margaux, top Lafite, one of many highlights being 12 bottles
of 2000 Lafite in owc (Estimate: HK$144,000-200,000/US$18,000-24,000,
Lot 70), while the large formats are represented by 3 magnums of the
great 1998 Pétrus (Estimate: HK$136,000-160,000/US$17,000-20,000, Lot
146, illustrated right) and seven vintages of Lafleur.

AN IMPORTANT COLLECTION OF WINES FROM FOUR FRENCH REGIONS (Lot 179-266)
Consigned by a passionate connoisseur with London roots and Hong Kong branches, this enticing collection has a balanced selection of wines from four of France’s most highly sought-after regions. Bordeaux gems include 12 bottles of 2000 Ausone in their original wooden case (Estimate: HK$104,000-144,000/ US$13,000-18,000, Lot 181) and 6 bottles of 2000 Pétrus in owc (Estimate: HK$160,000-220,000/ US$20,000-28,000, Lot 213, illustrated right). The full cases of Burgundy are phenomenal. They include- and this is but a partial list of many more cases offered -12 bottles of 1993 Henri Jayer Échézeaux (Estimate: HK$320,000-480,000/ US$40,000-60,000, Lot 234, illustrated on P.1), 12 bottles of 2005 Leroy Romanée St. Vivant in owc (Estimate: HK$160,000-240,000/ US$20,000-30,000, Lot 242), 6 magnums of 2005 Roumier Bonnes-Mares (Estimate: HK$120,000-160,000/ US$15,000-20,000, Lot 233) and 12 bottles of 1999 Meo Cros Parantoux (Estimate: HK$88,000-120,000/ US$11,000-15,000, Lot 248).

AN IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION OF DRC AND SCREAMING EAGLE (Lot 267-306)
Focusing on Grand Cru Burgundy especially Domaine de la Romanée-Conti as well as Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon, this excellent collection abounds with many rare treasures bought upon release. Twenty-eight lots of DRC, the star offerings, are led by a two-case parcel of 1999 DRC Assortment in owc (Estimate: HK$280,000-400,000/ US$35,000-50,000 per lot, Lot 268-269, illustrated on P.1). The Romanée Conti section features 2 bottles of 1999 (Estimate: HK$160,000-240,000/ US$20,000-30,000, Lot 287), 3 bottles of 2003 (Estimate: HK$220,000-300,000/ US$28,000-38,000, Lot 288, illustrated left) and 3 bottles of 2008 (Estimate: HK$200,000-280,000/ US$24,000-35,000, Lot 289). Another prized offering is a case of 2008 La Tâche in owc (Estimate: HK$144,000-200,000/ US$18,000-24,000, Lot 280).

Of great interest too are 6 superb vintages of Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon: 12 bottles of 2002 in owc (Estimate: HK$160,000-240,000/ US$20,000-30,000, Lot 304) and 12 bottles of 2004 (Estimate: HK$128,000-200,000/ US$16,000-24,000, Lot 306) are but two of the six lots offered.

THE FIRST 12 BOTTLE CASE OF 1992 SCREAMING EAGLE OFFERED AT AUCTION SINCE 2008
1971 Echezeaux_Lot 687A (2).jpg
Continuing the Screaming Eagle momentum, Acker will offer on the second day of the sale a full case of Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon of its 1992 debut vintage from another important collection (Estimate: HK$400,000-560,000/ US$50,000-70,000, Lot 687, illustrated left). The bottles are all in beautiful condition, this is a must have for any serious collection given how rarely it is offered at auction.

THE POWER OF THE PARCEL (Lot 597-664)
This collector bought the best of the best, and cases of every wine he sought for his cellar. So plentiful multi-case parcels, most in OWC are housed in this wonderful collection. Among the Bordeaux treasures are a three-case parcel of 6 bottles of 1998 Pétrus in owc (Estimate: HK$136,000-160,000/ US$17,000-20,000 per lot, Lot 633-635) and a three-case parcel of the legendary 2003 Latour in owc (Estimate: HK$64,000-96,000/ US$8,000-12,000 per lot, Lot 615-617). Collectors should look closely at the many parcels of OWCs from famous vintages of Lafite, Haut Brion, Mouton and Margaux, and more OWCs of Petrus, particularly a single OWC lot of the legendary 1990 Petrus (Estimate: HK$144,000-200,000/ US$18,000-24,000, Lot 632).

Burgundy too? Yes indeed. An OWC of 1989 La Tache (Estimate: HK$144,000-200,000/US$18,000-24,000, Lot 642), the OWC of 1999 La Tache magnums (Estimate: HK$320,000-480,000/US$40,000-60,000, Lot 644) and 2000 La Tache in OWC (Estimate: HK$144,000-200,000/ US$18,000-24,000, Lot 645) are but three of many DRCs available, including magnums of Romanee-Conti.

A SPECIAL LOT OF 9 BOTTLES OF 1971 ÉCHÉZEAUX BOTTLED BY HENRI JAYER FOR ALEXIS LICHINE
Acker is privileged to offer an extraordinary lot comprising 9 rare bottles of 1971 Échézeaux (Estimate: HK$160,000-240,000/US$20,000-30,000, Lot 687A, illustrated on P.1) from a case bottled by Henri Jayer especially for Alexis Lichine. Lichine was one of the most prolific and illustrious men in the world of wine in his day. In the 1960s, he regularly tasted wines with Henry Jayer and his brother Lucien Jayer. In 1971, he purchased a barrel of Échézeaux from Henri who also bottled and labeled for him. This brilliant offering came from one of the cases of these ultra-rare bottles that were bottled by Henri Jayer for Lichine. The present owner bought it directly upon release from a retailer in Los Angeles and kept it ever since. All the wines are in virtual mint condition having been stored impeccably.
