WECHAT OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED IN MALAYSIA!
Popular app launched concurrently with Bahasa Malaysia TVC and
appointment of Brand Ambassadors

02 April 2013 was an exciting day for users of WeChat, the popular and hip mobile social communications app that has taken the world by storm. Not only did it mark WeChat’s official launch in Malaysia, the company’s first ever Bahasa Malaysia television commercial starring local celebrities and WeChat ambassadors Lisa Surihani and Shaheizy Sam also made its debut.

Three versions of the Bahasa Malaysia TVC were developed to bring the fun and convenience of WeChat to a larger segment of the local Bahasa Malaysia speaking market. The 30-second TVCs will be aired in April 2013 over four channels, namely TV3, TV9, Astro Prima and Astro Ria.

Present at the launch was Mr. Poshu Yeung, Vice President of Tencent International Business, a leading provider of comprehensive Internet services in the world. Also sharing the stage were WeChat Malaysian ambassadors Lisa Surihani and Shaheizy Sam and Mr Ba U Shan-Ting, President of Domino’s Pizza Malaysia & Singapore, one of WeChat’s partners.

Commented Mr. Poshu Yeung of WeChat, “When we launched WeChat in January 2011, the app garnered a worldwide user account of more than 300 million in just over two years, one of the fastest growing mobile social communications apps.

Made available to Malaysians in June 2012, the free mobile social communications platform which supports sending live chat, voice, video, photo and text messages, went on to quickly gain popularity among local user accounts. The popularity of WeChat among Malaysians has resulted in the app ranking No.1 in both the iOS Appstore social networking free category and Android Google Play communication free category for one year, and has also ranked very high in overall free category.

"We believe this is because Tencent is committed to providing value to users and enhancing the quality of their lives. This simple philosophy has helped us grow to be one of the top internet companies in the world. WeChat is one way that Malaysians can enjoy the benefits of the value-added internet and mobile services that we provide,” commented Mr. Yeung on WeChat’s popularity in Malaysia.

“Our recent entry into Malaysia has also opened up fresh opportunities to work with several giants across various industries. One notable partnership is with Domino’s Pizza. At the end of the TVC, you can find a short promotional scene featuring our valued partner. WeChat users who follow Domino’s official account, will, upon redeeming a coupon code at Domino’s website and iPhone app (online) be entitled to purchase a second regular pizza for RM1 with the purchase of a regular pizza at standard price,” added Mr. Yeung.

Mr. Ba U Shan-Ting, President of Domino’s Pizza Malaysia & Singapore, said, “Domino’s Pizza is dedicated to providing quality products and services and we are always looking for opportunities to  build on this reputation for excellence. As we maintain our drive to create more value and more convenience for our customers, our partnership with WeChat is certainly a step in the right direction and we are very pleased to offer this exclusive promotion for WeChat users. At the same time, we hope it will also encourage Domino’s fans to try this excellent free social networking mobile application, which is fast becoming one of the top smartphone apps available.”

Supported on Wi-Fi, 3G, and 4G data networks, WeChat can be downloaded free of charge for iOS, Android, Symbian, BlackBerry and Windows Phone devices. WeChat is also available for global use by supporting up to 17 languages including English, Chinese, Indonesian, Portuguese, Thai, Vietnamese, Russian and Bahasa Malaysia.
