The first time Dato Lee Chong Wei visited Lord's Tailor at Bangsar Shopping Centre (they have another branch at AmpWalk in Jalan Ampang near Great Eastern Mall in KL) was 2 years ago when he accompanied his friends Dato Lawrence Chan who is a longtime client of Lord's Tailor.

Having seen Dato Lawrence Chan looking so nice in Lord's Tailor suits, Dato Lee Chong Wei decided to order his first Lord's Tailor suit for the BrandLaureate award last October. He wore a Lord's Tailor tuxedo when he went on stage to receive his BrandLaureate Icon award.

Earlier when he came to Lord's Tailor to pick up his tuxedo, he made the momentous announcement to the press he was going to marry Wong Mew Choo, his gf of 11 years! So history was made in the premises of Lord's Tailor!

His suit proved such a hit he decided to use Lord's Tailor for all his 4 wedding suits. Many people at the BrandLaureate ceremony commented and complimented on his suit he felt like a fashion icon. Dato Lee Chong Wei also read my article that was published in The Star, Malaysia's leading newspaper with 1.55 million daily readers, that Lord's Tailor is the personal tailor of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad and has been so for the last 27 years!

So our Silver Medallist in both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics felt confident that Lord's Tailor could do him justice on the Most Important Day of his shuttle-cocking life---his marriage to Wong Mew Choo!

He told Lord's Tailor since he was usually in t-shirts and jeans or casual wear, he wanted some shiny suits for his wedding! So Robert Loh, his wife Lee Lee Loh and son Kenny Loh went scouting for suitably shiny and glossy textiles!

They finally found exactly what the badminton superstar wanted in Dormeuil fabrics. Dormeuil, like Zegna, is one of the world's bestestest manufacturers of textiles and frightfully expensive but Dato Lee Chong Wei is even richer than me so he can afford it!

For your information, a similar suit like Dato Lee Chong Wei's formal suit costs RM 7,000 to RM 8,000 which sounds like an arm and leg. However, this is less than half the price of what a Savile Row tailor charges in London!

In London, Savile Row is world famous as the entire street is lined only with men's tailors and due to the exorbitant rents, they charge the earth and the foolishly wealthy go there. I used to make all my formal suits there too before Tun Mahathir made me come to my senses! Now it is Lord's Tailor or nothing!

If you are a member of the lower classes, you can order Dato Lee Chong Wei's grey suit which costs only RM 3,000!

It takes a month to get your suit done due to heavy demand. But if you are famous like me and Dato Lee Chong Wei or very, very rich, it can be done in 2 weeks.

On his wedding night, he wore 2 Lord's Tailor suits and was the epitome of sartorial perfection as every guest sighed and drooled and admired Dato Lee Chong Wei's suits. He looked so spiffy and dashing! Kenny Loh very sadly observed Dato Lee Chong Wei's body is also better than mine. So it was a breeze making his model standard suit!

However, Robert Loh, owner of Lord's Tailor and father of Kenny Loh noted that Dato Lee's shoulders are relatively broad (as they should be after all the swinging and smashing of racquets!) so a nice V-shape had to be maintained. Remarkably but  perhaps not so surprisingly, his arms are slightly longer than the norm in proportion to his 5ft 10 inch height (same like me!).

Long arms are vital in a badminton's player life as they are incredibly useful when catching or hitting shuttlecocks! So his arms are proportionately longer than his body size. I suppose that puts me out in the cold again as my hands are standard sized and not particularly long.

World's greatest swimmer Ian Thorpe also has a natural asset. While Dato Lee Chong Wei has relatively longer arms in proportion to his height, Ian Thorpe has HUGE feet! His feet are almost like paddles or oars which can propel him and allow him Ian Thorpe to slice through water like we cut melted butter with a knife! No wonder Ian Thorpe always has such a huge bulge inside his swimming trunks as we all know what big feet is supposed to mean---big lanchiau!

Where were we?

Oh, Dato Lee Chong Wei's wedding suits.

Ya, Dato Lee Chong Wei also likes bright shirts. "Dato Lee likes bright, happy colours," says Robert Loh. "He also ordered half a dozen shirts to go with his suits and for day wear. He is an ideal customer as he is so pleasant, easy going and well mannered. He is very professional and knows what he wants but once we sorted out his first fitting, he left everything to us. We are so honoured Dato Lee Chong Wei tells everyone he is very pleased with his suits and always reveals his tailor whenever anyone pays him a compliment!'

Don't try stealing his jacket---his name is on it! On the other hand, more thieves will want steal it as his precious name is on it and it can be sold at a higher price!
